Competition and consumer law experts came together on 5 November 2021 to discuss current topics in antitrust law and how this legal field will develop in the future, especially regarding climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic and digitalisation (‘Kartellrecht im Wandel: Braucht es neue Ansätze für Klima, COVID und Datenkraken?’). The conference was jointly organised by the Departments on European Law of the University of Vienna and the Johannes Kepler University Linz.

In her presentation, Christiane Wendehorst focused on different actors in the data economy and their rights to data access, particularly in regard to those actors who had a share in the co-generation of data. After providing an overview of existing access and portability rights and current European legisaltive action, she also discussed the role of consumer contract law as a basis for data access.
